Giving back to our veterans
HB 867 (2015) is the landmark “Texas Women Veterans Program” bill. It created Texas’ first state program to help women veterans access their benefits, and study challenges faced by female vets.
HB 257 (2017) connects veterans’ occupational training to key industry licenses and helps veterans transition to civilian jobs.
Cracking down on human trafficking
HB 240 and HB 256, both passed in 2017, helped local prosecutors shut down fake massage parlors and cantinas used as sex trafficking fronts.
HB 968, a 2015 initiative, empowers law enforcement to seize the illegal finances traffickers hide behind shell companies.
Keeping us safe
· HB 3396 (2011) and HB 896 (2015) are “Cyber Security” laws that help prosecutors pursue cyber security breaches in Texas.
· HB 941 (2015) and HB 238 (2017) update and expand the DNA database to include child predators, assailants, and sexual predators. These are helping to solve cold cases, bring criminals to justice, prevent future crimes, and exonerate innocent persons.
· HB 2504 (2017) improves local control for emergency services, so they can use resources more effectively for EMS/fire response.
· HB 530 (2015) provides scholarships for children of fallen peace officers.
Standing up for Texas women
HB 2102 (2011) improves access to supplemental breast cancer screenings.
Expanding work opportunities
HB 2738 and HB 2739, passed in 2017, help standardize cosmetology occupation program training credits (reducing student debt) and increase access to classes by expanding training schools into urban areas.
Looking out for our seniors
HB 834 (2015) fixes errors in the Silver Alert system so missing seniors are found faster in emergencies.
Reforming a broken system
HB 249, passed in 2017, strengthens abuse and neglect standards for caretakers, improving care of children in CPS/foster care.
Ensuring equal access to justice
HB 239 (2017) improves the oversight of care of pregnant inmates in state jails while HB 1103 (2017) improves jury selection records, making jury pools more diverse and fair.
